2013 London Rally for Heroes
18 April 2013
This weekend sees no less than 5 RAF Rally
Championship crews and at least 6 other service crews tackle the 2013
London Rally for Heroes.
In the first ever staging of the event, the rally will see RAF Crews
up against a field totalling 74 entries and competing on over 60
competitive stage miles in and around London. The rally is being
organised by the experienced Southern Car Club in association with other
motor clubs in the region and will raise money for help for heroes. Squadron Leader Craig Teasdale the RAF Motorsports Association Competition Secretary and a competitor in the event explains the RAF contribution :
“Its great to have such a huge RAF presence in this event we have crews spread throughout the field of all abilities and 5 crews battling for RAF Championship points. The stages look fantastic and will be a real challenge for everyone. Impressively, the overall services footprint is big with competing military crews making up over 15% of the entire field. In terms of the RAF Championship there is no favorite any one could go away the winner and it should be a fantastic battle right from Stage 1. We will also have service personnel out there on the stages as marshals and providing rescue support. It’s a total team effort.”
The rally will be flagged off by Secretary of State for Defence and local MP Philip Hammond from the Brooklands Museum on the evening of Friday 19 April with the competitive stages running over military land during Saturday 20 April. Visit http://www.londonrallyforheroes.com/ for more details.
